Virtual/Augmented Reality Has A Place in Language Classrooms!
Greetings, everyone, and welcome back to another post! This week, we were required to create material that utilizes augmented reality for our Current Issues in Education course. Before discussing the design process, I want to discuss the assignment itself. We were required to be in groups, so once again, I grouped with Ahmet Alper Aydoğdu, Mihriban Çizme, and Rabia Çimen (check out their blogs as well!) to complete the assignment. You can find our AR-based material, as well as the ASSURE model lesson plan, at the end of this post!
The Planning Process:
After we were assigned, two choices were given; we either had to create an AR/VR-based material that focused on a global problem or a city with its landmarks.
Why did we choose the second option?
We chose the second option because we were interested in teaching different cultures and enhancing cultural enrichment.
The Design Process:
The design process went smoother than we had anticipated. The tool that we used to create our worksheet, Canva, offered many affordances, such as accessibility, a user-friendly interface, and a rich media library. Finding 360 videos was effortless as we have chosen a famous city in the world: Paris. You may ask: Why Paris? Well, it is because I have been to Paris and I could not visit all of its landmarks so I was eager to explore more. Apart from me, my friends were also interested in it as the city is very iconic. Lastly, the creation of the ASSURE model lesson plan was easy as well because we got familiar with it from our past assignments.
Concluding Marks:
Overall, we have enjoyed the process. But we wonder about your opinions about our AR-based material and the assignment overall. So feel free to share your comments below. I hope you have a wonderful day! Until next time!
