Farewell Friends…

Greetings everyone, this will be the last post of this blog because the semester has finished. When I look back, I can see a lot of improvements about my digital literacy and material creation skills. This blog was created for my ICT course and I continued to use it for my new course “Current Issues In Education.” This post will be about the reflection of the course. My Opinions About The Course: Well, for starters, this course emphasizes the technology usage in language classrooms, which is always a strength in my book. Overall, there were not any weaknesses in the course. However, the example tools in the instructions could be more suitable for university students as most of them were blocked by a pay wall. I find this course to be a easy one because I am always interested in technology. The only difficulty I have found is the material design only because it takes a lot of time. My most favorite task was flipped classroom assignment. Although that task was the hardest, I find it more...

The Tailored Tool For Autonomous Learners: Artificial Intelligence!

Image
Greetings everyone, I am back with another post! Today we have been assigned to create an material based on artificial intelligence usage in the classroom. Once again, I teamed up with Ahmet Alper Aydoğdu , Mihriban Çizme , and Rabia Çimen (check out their blogs as well!) for the assignment. You can find our AI-based material and its ASSURE lesson plan at the end of this post! The Design Process: The design process was easy, because we already have experience about the material and lesson plan creation, about the tools which we have utilised, and also about AI from the last semester. Once again, we have utilized Canva for the material design because of its simple user interface and its accessibility. Concluding Marks: Overall, I enjoyed the process because now I can see that I am more capable in lesson plan and material design than I have anticipated. As much as I liked the process, I crave to hear about your opinions. So feel free to share your ideas down below. I hope you have a wo...

Virtual/Augmented Reality Has A Place in Language Classrooms!

Image
Greetings, everyone, and welcome back to another post! This week, we were required to create material that utilizes augmented reality for our Current Issues in Education course. Before discussing the design process, I want to discuss the assignment itself. We were required to be in groups, so once again, I grouped with Ahmet Alper Aydoğdu , Mihriban Çizme , and Rabia Çimen (check out their blogs as well!) to complete the assignment. You can find our AR-based material, as well as the ASSURE model lesson plan, at the end of this post! The Planning Process: After we were assigned, two choices were given; we either had to create an AR/VR-based material that focused on a global problem or a city with its landmarks. Why did we choose the second option? We chose the second option because we were interested in teaching different cultures and enhancing cultural enrichment. The Design Process: The design process went smoother than we had anticipated. The tool that we used to create our wo...

A new way of teaching: Flipped language classroom approach!

Image
Greetings everyone, and welcome back to another post! This week, we were required to create a video material based on the flipped classroom approach for our Current Issues in Education course. You may ask: What is a flipped classroom? I will answer your question later in this post! But first, I want to discuss the assignment itself. We were required to be in pairs or groups, so once again, I paired up with  Ahmet Alper Aydoğdu (check out his blog as well!) to accomplish the given assignment. You can find our video material, as well as a short quiz parallel with the video, at the end of this post! The Design Process: After we were assigned, two choices were given; we either had to create a grammar-based video material, which was said to be done in groups, or a vocabulary-based video material to be done in pairs. Why did we choose the second option? We have chosen the second option because communication would be much easier. Moreover, it is also because we were interested in teachin...

A Corpus-based Lesson: Authentic Language Oppurtunity!

Image
Greetings everyone! I am back with another post. In our Current Issues in Teaching course this week, as groups, we were required to create a corpus-based worksheet as well as a lesson plan based on the ASSURE model, both of which I will explain later in this post. I grouped up with my friends Ahmet Alper Aydoğdu , Rabia Çimen , and Mihriban Çizme (feel free to check out their blogs as well!) for the completion of the assignment. At the end of this post you can see our lesson plan and worksheet! Design Process We were required to produce a lesson plan and a worksheet on corpus usage for our assignments. Both parts of the assignments were relatively easy as our instructions were clear, and we were also familiar with designing lesson plans because of our other classes in our department.  The Corpus: The first time I heard about this term was in my linguistics class back when I was a sophomore. A corpus is an extensive collection of language data obtained from newspapers, novel...

We Are Back!

Hello everyone, It’s great to be back! Last year, this blog was created for one of my ELT courses, “Instructional Technologies and Material Design in English Language Teaching,” to have my own digital literacy portfolio and share my personal opinions about the course and technology usage in language classrooms. This year, however, I will continue to upload posts to my blog page for a third-grade course named “Current Issues in Teaching.” As a student and future teacher, I will create technology-based materials for language teaching in the course. I am really looking forward to finally creating something based on teaching and technology, so stay tuned for my future posts if you are interested. I hope you have a splendid day, and, as always, until next time! -EA out.

End of The Semester?

Image
Greetings everyone! This won't be about another assignment because the end of the semester has arrived. Time passes fast, isn't it? This post will be about the overall evaluation of our Instructional Technologies and Material Design in English Language Teaching course. My View of Technology: I think technology is a part of our everyday life. It makes our life easier in any way imaginable if used correctly. This course fortified my views about technology overall by creating oppurtunities for me to produce digital literacies. My Beliefs About Technology And Education: Overall this course changed my opinions about 21st century education. Initially, I thought that technologies and digital literacies are not very useful in language education. However, as I have produced digital literacy, I have observed that these tasks can be advantageous in many ways and they can enable students to produce, which can fortify their learning. These tasks create oppurtunities for collaborati...
