A new way of teaching: Flipped language classroom approach!

Image
Greetings everyone, and welcome back to another post! This week, we were required to create a video material based on the flipped classroom approach for our Current Issues in Education course. You may ask: What is a flipped classroom? I will answer your question later in this post! But first, I want to discuss the assignment itself. We were required to be in pairs or groups, so once again, I paired up with  Ahmet Alper Aydoğdu (check out his blog as well!) to accomplish the given assignment. You can find our video material, as well as a short quiz parallel with the video, at the end of this post! The Design Process: After we were assigned, two choices were given; we either had to create a grammar-based video material, which was said to be done in groups, or a vocabulary-based video material to be done in pairs. Why did we choose the second option? We have chosen the second option because communication would be much easier. Moreover, it is also because we were interested in teachin...

A Corpus-based Lesson: Authentic Language Oppurtunity!

Image
Greetings everyone! I am back with another post. In our Current Issues in Teaching course this week, as groups, we were required to create a corpus-based worksheet as well as a lesson plan based on the ASSURE model, both of which I will explain later in this post. I grouped up with my friends Ahmet Alper Aydoğdu , Rabia Çimen , and Mihriban Çizme (feel free to check out their blogs as well!) for the completion of the assignment. At the end of this post you can see our lesson plan and worksheet! Design Process We were required to produce a lesson plan and a worksheet on corpus usage for our assignments. Both parts of the assignments were relatively easy as our instructions were clear, and we were also familiar with designing lesson plans because of our other classes in our department.  The Corpus: The first time I heard about this term was in my linguistics class back when I was a sophomore. A corpus is an extensive collection of language data obtained from newspapers, novel...

We Are Back!

Hello everyone, It’s great to be back! Last year, this blog was created for one of my ELT courses, “Instructional Technologies and Material Design in English Language Teaching,” to have my own digital literacy portfolio and share my personal opinions about the course and technology usage in language classrooms. This year, however, I will continue to upload posts to my blog page for a third-grade course named “Current Issues in Teaching.” As a student and future teacher, I will create technology-based materials for language teaching in the course. I am really looking forward to finally creating something based on teaching and technology, so stay tuned for my future posts if you are interested. I hope you have a splendid day, and, as always, until next time! -EA out.

End of The Semester?

Image
Greetings everyone! This won't be about another assignment because the end of the semester has arrived. Time passes fast, isn't it? This post will be about the overall evaluation of our Instructional Technologies and Material Design in English Language Teaching course. My View of Technology: I think technology is a part of our everyday life. It makes our life easier in any way imaginable if used correctly. This course fortified my views about technology overall by creating oppurtunities for me to produce digital literacies. My Beliefs About Technology And Education: Overall this course changed my opinions about 21st century education. Initially, I thought that technologies and digital literacies are not very useful in language education. However, as I have produced digital literacy, I have observed that these tasks can be advantageous in many ways and they can enable students to produce, which can fortify their learning. These tasks create oppurtunities for collaborati...

A Double-Edged Sword in Education: Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Image
Greetings everyone! I am back with another post. In our ICT course this week we were required to complete an artificial intelligence (AI) task which involves talking to dead people. It is spooky, isn't it? Once again I have paired up with, you guessed it, Ahmet Alper Aydoğdu (feel free to check out his page as well!) for the completion of the assignment. But don't be alarmed before I talk about the task. General Information About The Task: This week we were required to use an AI tool named " magicschool.ai " which I did not know of. In the website, there are many AI tools that can be used for specific purposes. In the assignment we were required to use a feature that allows us to communicate with an AI that can act and talk as a character (historical figures, scientists, celebrities, and so on). We were supposed to conduct an interview which consists of ten questions. For our character, we have chosen Stefan Zweig to conduct our interview project. Then, as asked, w...

An Overall Review Of One Of The Best Films: Fight Club

Image
Greetings, everyone, and welcome back to another post! This week in our ICT course, we were assigned to produce a collaborative text with three group members. For this task, I paired up with Ahmet Alper Aydoğdu and Abdalhamed Harrak (I recommend you visit their blogs as well!). The Detailed Description Of The Task: Among the other tasks, we chose to collaboratively write a film review because we wanted to explore a different subject area and produce something. Therefore, writing a film review sounded very appealing to me. We decided to review " Fight Club " for our film because it was a no-brainer. It is one of our favorite films of all time, with many details we could delve into. At the end of this post you can find our film review with feedback from another group in our department. Also if you are interested, you can also check out the trailer from below. Our Experience About The Task: We were required to use Google Docs to write our review for our task. As university stu...

An Healthy Recipe: Protein Pudding!

Image
Welcome back everyone! I am back with another post about our technology course. It was about time for us to create a video to enrich our digital literacy! This week we were assigned to create a video in groups of two or three, and I have once again paired up with my fellow friend Ahmet Alper Aydoğdu (feel free to visit his blog as well!). We made a video about a healthy, nutritious, and delicious pudding. If you are interested, please be sure to check out the video! Design Process: We were give three options to create a video, and we chose to record an procedural video. As for the subject, we went for creating a recipe video for a healthy pudding which is also suitable for athletes because both me and my pair are currently doing fitness as a hobby. It is an area that we are both interested and knowledgeable. Consequently, the design process was rather fun from recording to narrating and editing. I recorded the video which demonstrates the recipe and my pair narrated it.  Recor...

An Entertaining and Convenient Way of Teaching

Image
Hello, and welcome back to another post! In our lesson this week, we were supposed to record a podcast. Among three of the options that were given to us, me and my pair Ahmet Alper Aydoğdu  (please also check out his blog!) have chosen to record a podcast about a short story which has been written and narrated by us. About The Podcast's Plot: We were required to use at least 5 words from a word list given to us. The story in general is about a criminal clown who enjoys killing people. It is brutal, isn't it? If it sounds interesting, I would suggest you to check it out. We tried to make the story funny because creating podcasts was a new concept to us. Design Procedure: As for the procedure, as soon as our instructor gave us the assignment and the word list which we required to use some words from, an idea suddenly emerged in my mind about the plot. Designing the plot was easy and entertaining. However, recording was a minor issue to us because of the lack of the environments w...

The Key To A Better Internet Environment

Image
Greetings to everyone again! In our course for this week, we had to prepare an infographic about legal issues about technology in general. I have chosen the topic "netiquette" because I personally thought it was the most broad topic that encompasses many issues together.  The Design Proccess: The design process was rather easy because I got accustomed to such tools that enable you to design and also the website I have used which I will tell you about offers many templates. I have started with reading about the topic "netiquette" in general to get background information. Next, after testing many infographic designing websites, I have chosen the website called piktochart.com . Why? This is because the website offers many affordances such as a built-in icon library and resizeable templates. However, I have come across a minor constraint. Some features were exclusive to premium users. So to supplement the icons that I have used in my infographic, I have also used a webs...

21st Century Learning: What Is Different?

Image
21st Century Education Throughout the history, the view of education has changed and evolved. Until 21st century, the people has been traditionally educated through books and black boards. With the swift progress, the technology has been implemented; however, it is very different from the traditional education.  Misconception About Technology Usage in Education Despite the common belief, using technology in a classroom is not merely about using projectors and computers to teach knowledge through presentations, it is about purposefully and cooperatively utilizing technology with students.  Constant Learning: Technology is everywhere in our life and it is an indispensable feature in our life, it is like a limb of a modern human body. As a consequence, if technology is implemented carefully, the education can be more than just going into a building and listening to an instructor. Moreover because they learn and discover the information by themselves, the learning becomes more con...

What Is the Purpose?

First of all, I welcome you to my blog page. This is my first post here and I will do more in the next at least few months. I have opened this blog because of one of my department courses named “Instructional Technologies and Material Design In English Language”. This course requires us to produce some digital literacy about our field in general such as podcasts, infographics, digital stories etc. As a consequence, I will share my work here on my blog page so if you are interested, stay tuned for my posts! -EA out.
